General Information

Official Language

The official working language of the meeting is English.

Climate

August is late summer in Germany and daytime temperatures typically range from 15°C to 25°C. Days are usually sunny but you should bring a coat and an umbrella. Thunderstorms can be surprisingly sudden and strong.

Banks and currency exchange

Banks open from 0900 to 1300 and from 1400 to 1600, Monday to Friday. ATMs are available throughout the city and in the conference venue.
The Germany currency is EURO. Direct cash cards (Maestro, EC) are generally accepted in most restaurants, hotels and shops. Credit cards are less widely accepted than in other countries. Tipping is not required, but bringing the amount up to a round figure is appreciated.

Visa

Germany is part of the so-called Schengen zone, thus citizens from countries being part of this area and citizens from the EU, do not need special visas to enter Germany.
Foreigners who need an official invitation letter to obtain visa should contact the Congress Secretariat at least four months prior to the congress.

Insurance and vaccinations

The conference fee does not cover insurance for the delegates. The organisers recommend that delegates insure themselves in their home country to cover pre-journey cancellation for personal reasons as well as accidents, medical expenses and loss of personal belongings during their visit.
No special vaccination is required when visiting Germany.

Child Care

On request, we will provide day care facilities for Congress delegates with children. To enable the Organising Committee to adequately accommodate your children, please inform us about your specific requirements. Corresponding inquires should be sent to Thomas D’Souza no later than February 28th.

Electrical system

Germany uses a 220 V (European-style two-pin plugs are standard) electricity. Always check the power supply before using equipment.

WiFi and Phone

Participants will obtain guest access to the university wireless network. It covers the whole venue as well as a substantial part of the city centre. Delegates from an “Eduroam” member institution can directly connect to the network (http://www.eduroam.org/).

When calling Germany, the country code is 49 preceded by your international access code (or +). The outgoing code is 00 (or +) followed by the country code (e.g. 0044 for the UK). Local emergency phone numbers are 112 (fire and ambulance) and 110 (police).

ESEB 13 compensates its CO2 footprint

In order to neutralize emission of climate-active gases such as CO2, ESEB 13 invests into certified carbon offset projects that reduce emissions equivalent to the amount caused through e.g. transportation to Tuebingen (including car or plane), electricity, food, paper and waste.

Compensation projects will be chosen in collaboration with the certified CO2-compensation agency myclimate.org, which also provides further information on climate neutrality and CO2 compensation.  Check, for example, "Stoves for Life”, a project that distributes energy-efficient cook stoves to rural households in Kakamega, Kenya. This project aims at preserving the unique vegetation and biodiversity of Kakamega rainforest and expects to reduce emissions by an equivalent of 241,976 t CO2.

Force majeure

In the event of the entire conference having to be cancelled due to force majeure, the organizer cannot accept liability for any claims for damages and/or losses.

Disclaimer

The organizers cannot accept any liability for damages and/or losses of any kind which may be incurred by the conference participants or by any persons take part in all tours and events at their own responsibility.
